'I will come here again and do something significance' -Me, 2014
I've visited Aquaria KLCC two years ago with my housemates for our 'girls outing' hee. I was amazed by each inch and every centimetre of the exhibits area. The agile otter, roaming sharks, swimming school of fish, more. I felt like don't want to leave at that moment. My heart pounding to know more and more about this place, especially the animals here.
2 years after, which is two weeks ago, I came back to Aquaria as one of their intern veterinary student. And it is not as heaven as I thought.
Every morning, woke up at 4.30 AM to prepare myself to face the day because we need to move to TBS at 5.30 AM to catch the very first LRT at 6.10 AM. Every morning must present at Aquaria basement lab by 7.30 AM for a morning briefing. Normal working people start working at 8 AM but we need to start at 7.30 AM is a new challenge for me cuz I need to change my mindset and adapt to earlier working hours!
Everyday my friend and I assigned to different department, thus fulfilled my dream to learn each inch and every centimetre of Aquaria!
What I can say, the Aquaria team is working sooo hardd days and nights to preserve and maintain the place. It is not as easy and people thought, such as feed the animal, clean the place, etc etc, but the process is far beyond than that. They do water quality process, where they check the water quality of each tank everyday to make sure it is at correct rate. They do feed preparation comprised of 50 kg mackerel, 1 kg suid, prawn, clamps, and vegies everyday. It is not easy okayyy. Each type of fish eat different type of cutting of feeds!
Despite all of the tiredness, the working environment is overwhelm with positivity and passion of each staff to give the best for their part.
Plus, instead of learning theory and practical about the management, almost everyday we gonna have pharmacology, anatomy, physiology, parasitology ad hoc quizzes from the Vet. We really need to squeeze and recall every lecture that we had before to answer the questions!
By the end of my internship, we got a chance to dive! Its a once in a life time chance!
When finished the working hours at 5.30 PM, I went to pray Asar first, and start the journey back to TBS. Everyday I'll arrive at college around 8.30 PM. It is a long day that repeated again and again for two weeks long huhu.
However, I realised that, it is a culture here, to always utter 'Terima kasih' and 'Thank you' to everyone. Appreciation is expressed to Aquarist until to Cleaner and Guards for every small things did(dunno if my grammar is correct or not here!) Thus, reduced the tiredness and lift up the spirit to work.
I guess working with animal is less stress indeed!
Follow your dream because it will give you an indescribable satisfaction. Dream is always beautiful isn't? But still, there's a price that you need to pay. The effort will be worth it, don't be afraid to try.
